Woodwork Plans Made Easy

How to turn ordinary woodwork projects into magical, modern woodworking ideas.

If you are new to woodworking try and follow these steps:

1. Preparation is vital
2. Choose plans that are accurate and from a reliable source
3. Start out with smaller projects
4. use the right tools for the job
5. Master hand tools before moving to larger industrial tools
6. Join a good forum that can help you wit your projects
7. Never start a new project whilst you have an uncompleted project

Preparation is Vital

you need to be prepared for your woodwork project before you start it. This is a problem most beginners struggle to understand. We all think that it is easy to jump straight into something but then soon realize that is is harder than it actually appears, so take the time out to get yourself organized before hand. One question you should ask yourself is: " What am I looking to make". Then from there you move on to find the right plans.

Choosing the right woodwork plans

This is a very tricky aspect to your project as it is the fundamentals to your success. As you can imagine, you need some sort of measurements before you start building your item, therefore you need plans that are very accurate and reliable.

There are many sources out there where you can find such plans that are reliable and accurate, IE magazines, books, online etc but there are pros and cons to each resource. magazines are expensive as you would need to subscribe to it in order to get the full plans over consecutive months however they will be accurate and depending on which one it is, they can be reliable. If you get a book from the library the chances are, the designs are out of date and not so modern anymore however once again they would be very reliable. The Internet is your best bet as it has thousands upon thousands of plans available to you immediately, however you need to be cautious when finding woodwork plans online, as alot of plans are an outright joke. An example of this would be, free plans. If you get plans for free the chances are that they are not very accurate and will leave your project in ruins. Do some research and you will come across something that is proven.

Start out with smaller projects

Don't get yourself caught up in huge projects that are a nightmare to complete, this will just leave you de-motivated and your project will fail. Start out with a project like, making a tool box or something. This will give you practice with hand tools like drills, maybe even a jig which will build your confidence with the tools. then once you have completed that, move onto a bigger project.

Use the right tools

This is an obvious statement to make as you would expect that if you require a drill for your project, you would use a drill! I can't tell you what I have seen in my short life so far. Let me tell you that if you do not use the right tools for the job, you may as well not start it. Woodwork is about precision and if you don't use the right tools, how can you accomplish a well finished off project? Rather spend the money on the right tools, then waste your time using tools that do another job.

Join a community

Joining a community of woodworkers will help you develop skills that you would never have know. There are many woodwork forums on the net and in most cases they are more than willing to help you with problems if you get stuck.

Never start a new project whilst you have an existing project

This is a bottom line rule. If you start another project whilst you are busy with an existing project you are making a HUGE mistake of focus! You have to be focused on what you are doing. Don't for one second get distracted when you are trying to complete a project successfully, you will end up having numerous projects in completed.

I hope this has helped you in some way understand what needs to be done when attempting a new project.
