Will Work for Sexy Abs...Without Doing Any Sit Ups!
Tighten those ab muscles so that you too can wear your cropped jean shorts and cut off T-shirt during the fast approaching hot summer days.
When I was in training for a beauty pageant years back, I was jogging four miles a day then going to the gym for two hours daily. I kept this routine for two months before my actual show date. Part of my exercise routine was completing a combination of 1000/2000 crunches to strengthen the abs. As much ab movement that I was doing at the time had no impact whatsoever on the physical appearance of my abs. No matter how much I worked at "getting cut" or some say "washboard abs", it just was not in my genes. Or is it because I can never resist sweets like cookies and cakes, hence the sacrifice one might have to make to attain dramatic ab results.
Lately I have been on this Yoga craze. Although I am no longer craving a highly noticeable muscle definition in my abs, I still desire a toned and sexy stomach we can all appreciate. Here are two exercises that has no sit ups or crunches involved. Grab a yoga mat for best comfort. These are actually holding positions. Doing these exercises often along with a healthy diet and cardiovascular activity will get your abs sleek and swimwear ready.
The first holding position is to balance your body in a straight line parallel to the floor leaning on your elbows with your hands clasped. Make sure your elbows are in a 90 degree angle with a straight line to your shoulders. Keep your shoulders down. Hold this position as long as you can tightening your entire body. It may be 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes...just as long as you can. You will most likely begin to shake. Not to worry because your body is not used to the position and plus we are exhausting the muscles. Hold that as long as you can and repeat if necessary. Best done to your favorite music on your headphones.
The other holding position is to lay on your back. Bring both legs up to a 90 degree angle with your knees straight if possible. You may want to place your hands behind your back for extra support. If you are more advanced keep your hands on the floor slightly at your side next to your hips. Or you can hold onto something behind your head like the bottom of a couch, as long as you keep the center of your back on the floor. Begin to lower your legs very slowly until your feet are about 2 inches from the ground. Hold your legs there keeping the center of your back touching the floor. Hold this as long as you can and repeat. Instead of letting your legs hit the floor raise them back up and repeat. Do 5 of these everyday and you should begin to see some results.
A little cardiovascular warm up and some stretching prior to trying these exercises will be most helpful in targeting those abs. These two exercises will define and strengthen your abdominal muscles without having to do a single sit up..
