There is still hope for the human race. Despite pretty much everything you see on television, a new Match.com dating study reveals singles are interested in more than poorly fitting t-shirts and inappropriate swimwear.
Match.com, the premiere online dating site, conducted a survey of members to determine their summer-time dating preferences. The results are more promising than any single night's TV listings would indicate. Contradicting The Jersey Shore, Glamor Girls, and everyone appearing on E!, women and men are not interested in tramps and meatheads.
Okay, we like to watch them make fools of themselves, but we don't want to date them.
Here are some survey highlights:
53% of men say it's not acceptable for a woman to wear a thong for a beach or pool date.
This number seems dangerously low. It might be a cultural thing. If you are dating someone who finds a thong acceptable, especially on an early date, and he is not from Brazil, you are dating a creep. If you have a thong-worthy body, congratulations on that. Keep it to yourself until your date makes it clear he cares about something more relationship sustaining.
34% of women say they are willing to be seen in a swimsuit within the first three dates.
This figure is a little high. Again if you are proud of your body, good for you. However being seen within the first three dates in a swimsuit means your date is cheap and not very creative. The first three dates in a relationship are critical, and should be spent in intimate settings where you may get to know one another. Dinner, gondola ride, picnic in the park; these are early date activities. A walk on the beach is acceptable, but should be done in street clothes to reduce your chances of divided attention.
80% of women say a guy should never walk around shirtless, regardless of his physique.
This will come as a shock to most muscle-heads, but then they are easily surprised. Yes, the only thing the gals on Jersey Shore like more than a man in an Ed Hardy t-shirt is a man in no shirt, but they make up that 20% of women you shouldn't date. Similar to the thong example, above, if you have to show an inordinate amount of skin to get your date's attention, you both have issues to address.
