From the extraordinary accomplishments to the difficult personal trials, these are the top monumental moments that occured in the lives, music and ministry of Contemporary Christian/Gospel Artists throughout the 2000-2020 decade.

2.) Compassion Art (2020)
Songs of social justice have sprung from Christian Artists for many years but one of the distinct things about Compassion Art is that a group of CCM Artists came together to together produce and do something about social justice issues. The recorded included songwriting and performances by: Paul Baloche, Steven Curtis Chapman, Israel Houghon, Leeland Dayont Mooring, Tim Hughes, Graham Kendrick, Kirk Franklin, TobyMac, Darlene Zschech, Martin Smith, Amy Grant, Joel Houston and others. Maria Sue was accidentally struck by a reversing SUV, driven by her brother who had not seen that she was running towards him to greet him. She was taken to a hospital in Nashville where she died. The process was of healing amidst the pain of Maria Sue's death was difficult for the family. "Because of my faith," Mary Beth, Maria Sue's mother, emotionally said on an interview in "Good Morning America", "I know that she's completely whole and completely OK and I'm going to see her again." The transparency and action of having faith amidst their circumstance inspired believers and non-believers to have faith. The Family appeared on "Larry King Live", "People" magazine and "Focus on the Family". Steven Curtis Chapman's studio album, Beauty Will Rise, sprang forth from the family's loss.

4.) Friends 2003 (2003)
Celebrating two decades as a contemporary Christian artist, Michael W. Smith was highly honored at the 2003 Dove Awards Ceremony. "Do we have a bigger stage this year?" commented American Idol Host Simon Cowell when Mandissa first appeared on the show. The comment really hurt Mandissa, who had battled food addiction and obesity most of her life, but she reacted differently from what most people expected. "You hurt me," she told Simon Cowell. "It was painful. It really was. But I want you to know that I have forgiven you. You don't need someone to apologize in order to forgive somebody. I figured that if Jesus could die so that all my sins could be forgiven, I could certainly extend that same grace to you." Cowell said he was humbled and gave Mandissa a hug.

We felt it necessary to take some time to focus on our friendship, as that's more important than risking it for the sake of touring at this time." The group's lead singer, Spencer Chamberlain, was dealing with an addiction to drugs. The time took a time off to help their fellow band member in battle and his Christian walk as well as forgive and reconcile in their relationship with him. Israel's performance was a highly monumental moment in Christian music because Christian Artists rarely are given opportunities to perform at an awards ceremony that, for the most part, is composed of mainstream artists. In addition to these successes, Casting Crowns' visit to the communist country of North Korea is truly a memorable moment of CCM history in the 2000s. The group visited the nation twice in the decade, once by themselves and the second time accompanied by the Annie Moses Band. "Perhaps it is clichéd, but music is a powerful medium. Now it's the cool thing to do, so don't do it for that reason." The main reason behind Sandoval's decision was due to his observation that dreadlocks where being used and seen as something look cool instead of the real meaning behind them.

13.) Matthew West and Something to Say (2020)
"It was back in April 2020," West told Christianity Today, "I had just been experiencing some vocal fatigue, feeling like my voice needed life in it.......I had lost some of my vocal range, staying on higher notes and lower notes." It was soon discovered that Matthew West some bleeding in West's vocal chords caused by polyps. Surgery became the singer/songwriter's only option. West had the surgery and rested for six months, canceling approximately 25 shows. Interestingly, this moment in this artist's life occurred before recording his album Something to Say. He had written all the songs before the event, but the artist has said that the album's lyrics became more meaningful after the experience. At the time, I don't think I could have told you that I fully understood their meaning, but after I went through the surgery, some of the lyrics from those songs began to resurface in my mind and heart. It was almost like a light went on, and I had finally grasped what I had already written about." "People," said Toby "want to turn our solo records into a negative thing when it is a great thing. It's a chance for us to express ourselves, to be proud of each other and pursue the deepest passions of our hearts artistically."
