Father Daughter Crafts: Wood Shutter Toy Chest or Cradle
This wood shutter toy chest is an easy father daughter craft perfect for dads and daughters of all ages.
To Make This Easy Father Daughter Craft You Will Need:

Plywood
Wood Fence Post Finials
Screws

To get started you want to cut out 2 pieces of plywood or birch plywood or even MDF to 12 inches wide and 18 inches tall.
Take your jig saw and round one end of one of the pieces to make the rounded base of the cradle. Take this first piece and trace the curve on to the second piece to make sure your get the same rounded curve for both feet of the cradle.
Lay both pieces out on your table. Measure 12 inches down from the top. Draw a line across this area. In the area below the line and above the rounded bottom curve you want to cut out a heart. One heart in each board. I like to take a piece of paper, draw a heart to size and cut it out. This can be traced onto the wood.
Drill a hole in the middle of each heart, then insert the jig saw blade and cut this out as well. This step can be skipped if you wish, but it adds a fun detail.
Tip: To skip the step, but get the look buy a wood heart cut out from the store. You can glue or mail it to the side for this detail.
Now, cut one more board to 10 inches wide and 18 inches long. This will be the bottom o the bed. You want to line this up with the lines you drew on the sides. Pre drill holes through the outside of the sides and into this base board. Slip your screws in and screw together.
Now, door the sides you want to cut 2 piece of wood or MDF to 18 inches long and about 10 inches tall. Line them up on the sides of the bottom and slip into place. Pre drill the holes and screw into place.
Fill holes with wood filler and you are finshed.
Note; the base of the bed is 2 inches less wide than the end pieces. This will allow the sides to be slipped in neatly and screwed into place.
Now, primer the whole cradle out and let this dry. Paint out in any colors you wish!
