"Hello I Must Be Going" (2020) was Predictable but Somewhat Charming
A film about a young woman who moves back into her parents house after going through a divorce...the movie was a little predictable but it was still entertaining and it managed to make me smile. I don't want to pay too much for it but it was harmless.
The movie is coined as a drama, comedy and romance...is it successful at hitting all of those genres? As a drama it did decently; both Lynskey and Danner did well in their roles making their emotions pour on screen and all that good stuff. The comedy wasn't executed strongly but whenever it showed up it felt organic so I appreciated that part of the film...I'm not saying I rolled on the floor laughing -- I smiled twice which is already a triumph. Now for the biggie, if you look at the poster it's probably what you would think of first, the romantic aspect of it. So the little issue with the romantic aspect of this story is that our little Amy begins an affair with a 19 year old and she is now 35. At the beginning of their courtship all I saw was two people giving in to lust...that isn't love so, to me, I still wasn't watching a romance. As it continued they actually began to get know each other and I guess love occurred. I'm not too sure because their conversations really only stemmed from their troubles, I could tell my problems to a psychologist and that wouldn't mean I loved this person.
I guess what I'm saying is that the romance in this film didn't ring completely true to me, I think it was more of an infatuation but hey perhaps that's just me. I did think that Lynskey hit that note just right; she lit up, seemed younger, got stronger and appeared desirable once again. The kid didn't do too good, Christopher Abbott who plays the Jeremy I thought was cast well but seemed jaded rather than anything else. Did I get my Phix? Mildly but I couldn't recommend it too much unless everything else playing is terrible.
