Is "Teen Mom" Giving the Wrong Impression?

The hit show "Teen Mom" on MTV has been getting some of the best ratings on network television. What is this show teaching our young adults. Is it giving the wrong impression about teen parenting or is it a good example of how difficult it can be?

The hit show is a spin off of the other MTV show Sixteen and Pregnant. It follows the lives of a handful of young girls who are trying to find the common ground between being a new mom and a teen all at the same time. This show has also gotten a great deal of skepticism because of the fact that it shows all of the good, bad, and ugly. If they show the girls during times that they are getting by okay, such as with Teen Mom 2 stars Leah and Corey, people say that this leads young girls to believe that being a teen parent is easy. When they show the abuse, neglect, and fighting, as in the case with teen mom Amber Portwood, then they are capitalizing on their stories because they know that drama gets ratings. It seems that no matter what the show does, they cannot please anyone.

The fact that there is loads of information about preventing teen pregnancy, getting help in an abusive situation, the adoption process, and the show gives reference to the site www.itsyoursexlife.org on a regular basis seems to be completely disregarded. There are a great deal of things to be learned on this show. The bottom line is that it is reality. In real life situations you will see all things good or bad and yes, there are good times for teen parents just the same as there are bad. In a reality series, you are bound to see all sides, just as you do in life.
