Zac Efron Goes the Frat Boy Route in ‘Townies’

Zack Efron continues to shed the signature "good guy image" from his sugary "High School Musical" days by getting more diverse young adult roles. This time, the former Disney star tries to get his feet wet on a different kind of comedy outside his boyish past with the movie "Townies." He takes this direction side by side his comedian co-star Seth Rogen. He also gets a frat boy makeover for his character in this motion-picture offering.
The Prepster Look
For Efron's fans, it would be most noticeable that the buffed up actor dons an out-of-character, preppy street style for the film. His role features him as an alpha male who exudes a fashion-savvy, pretty boy look for the usual frat boy. This contrasts his rough Marine look for his 2020 romantic drama "The Lucky One," the project that led to his major image reboot from the boyish to the brawny.
Although he still shows off his muscular physique by wearing tight fraternity tees in the movie, set photos readily reveal his prepster wardrobe, which includes varying combinations of button-up shirt, skinny patterned tie, candy-striped robe, weed leaf belt, fitted slacks, slip-on sandals, and penny loafers. A number of images also show him sporting a perfect pompadour.
A Comedy Team-up with Seth Rogen
Efron already proved his bankability as the sing-songy, the serious, and the romantic on his big-screen outings. This time, his comedic side comes into play as he gets pitted with Seth Rogen -- in a production that this long-time funny man describes as a "really dirty comedy." The film clearly intends to explore, expand, and experiment the heartthrob actor's reach to wider audiences with this team-up with the often raunchy Rogen.
In the story, Efron is a college student initiated into the Greek life. His hard-partying ways as a rowdy frat boy disrupts, and at some point, wreaks havoc into the quiet suburban life of Rogen's local family man character.
Getting a Titanium Plate
This Nicholas Stoller comedy, which is due for a 2020 release, made the headlines early on in the production after Efron encountered an on-set injury during a fight scene with co-star Dave Franco. The 25-year-old actor broke his hand, which required a titanium-plate implant, together with a bunch of screws. According to Efron, he had to recover really fast. He couldn't wear a cast for his injured hand so he could go back to work as soon as possible.
