Coalition for Luggage Security Calls for an End to Airport Evacuations

The Coalition maintains that airport evacuations are happening all too frequently, and a change in our airport security system is well overdue.

The Coalition maintains that this is happening all too frequently, and a change in our airport security system is well overdue.

The Coalition's criticism comes as Homeland Security is taking notice of very unusual items turning up in airport luggage recently in several different major airports around the nation. The unusual items have included blocks of cheese with wires sticking out of them. Terrorism experts warn that cheese blocks have the same consistency as plastic explosives. Authorities believe that the unusual objects could signify terrorist cells testing the security efficiency of airports, preparing for strikes.

A senior member of al Qaeda warned the U.S. about two months ago that the terrorist organization was planning to make strikes on American soil that would make the plane-ramming of the World Trade Towers look like child's play by comparison. The NSA has taken the threat very seriously, but so far no definitive plots have been reported found or stopped.

Recent U.S. military intelligence has said al Qaeda has managed to tightly regroup in remote areas such as Pakistan and that loose standards governing visas for European travelers to the U.S. could open the door for al Qaeda cells to gather in this nation from Europe.

Americans in general have felt inconvenienced but not all that much more protected by the new airport screening methods that were put into place in 2002. Airlines have reported that surging security costs and flight delays have caused them to lose a great deal of money for what seems like no good reason.

"The Coalition for Luggage Security urges Government officials and the airline industry to simply discuss alternate means of baggage delivery. We propose passengers be given an affordable choice to ship their bags in advance of their trip to reach their destination before they arrive. This action would vastly reduce the number of bags on airplanes and in airports. A decline in passenger baggage reduces the amount of luggage being screened and also cuts fuel consumption dramatically," said Josh Holm, Director of The Coalition for Luggage Security.

"How many lives today are affected because of this evacuation? How many missed connections, meetings and deadlines? How about the fear of flying being enhanced by evacuations? Evacuations are not solutions; they are simply a well-intended form of terrorism. Stop terrorizing our citizens! We have to change this broken system and it can not be fixed with the seizing of blocks of cheese or shampoo!" said Richard A. Altomare, Founder of The Coalition for Luggage Security and CEO of Universal Express, Inc.
