A Motorcycle Review of the Triumph America
Pricing, specs, and overview of the Triumph America
The Triumph America features the same air-cooled parallel twin engine which powers the Triumph Bonneville, displacing 865 cubic centimeters. In this engine, Triumph engineers retained the original layout of a parallel twin, in which both pistons rise and fall together by way of a 270 degree crankshaft firing interval and twin balancing shafts which keep everything civil. This is where the Triumph America differs from the Bonneville. The 270 degree firing interval provides a more loaping exhaust note than the Bonnie. The Triumph America, like the Bonneville, however, retains 90% of its peak torque at only 2500 RPMs which gives the engine that singular British sound, while providing the kind of throaty grumble that American riders love so much. Fuel is fed into the cylinders by way of twin carburetors which feature electric float bowl heaters and throttle position sensors. Deeply chromed exhaust pipes reinforce the America's styling theme, as do the tough alloy wheels.
Braking is handled by a single 310mm front disc brake and 285mm rear disc, both taken care of with a twin-piston caliper. Both of these equal up to more than enough stopping power for the Triumph America 's svelte 497 lbs. The seat height of the Triumph America is a fairly low 28.3 inches, giving you plenty of seat depth for comfortable maneuvering. A 5.1 gallon fuel tank practically begs you to give the Triumph America a shot at some moderate-range touring, and features a hand painted coach line and two-tone graphics. The frame of the Triumph America is confidence inspiring, having the kind of layout that is comfortable for beginners as well as tight and composed for experienced riders.
The Triumph America is available in a few colors this year, including Pacific Blue and Aegean Blue, Phantom Black, or Pacific Blue and New England White. The Phantom Black color scheme is slightly less expensive than the two-tone. Pricing for the Triumph America begins at $7,999 for the Black Triumph America, or $8,199 for the two tone. The Triumph America, with all this, is the best of American-style motorcycling, in a package which is uniquely its own.
