Safety Rules to Follow when Using Power Tools

Safety very important when you are using power tools. By following these safety rules, you can ensure that you are dong the maximum effort to reduce the chances of injury.

1. Inspect all power tools carefully before using them. Ensure that they are in good operating condition and free of debris.

2. Make sure the work area is well lit. Never operate power tools in the dark. You must be able to see clearly. Install enough lights in your shop to cover any poorly lit areas.

3. Do not operate any power tool unless you are familiar with its controls and features. Be sure you read all the documentation that came with the tools when purchased. This should include operating instructions as well as safety information.

4. Always ensure that a power tool is in the OFF position before you connect it to a power source. If a portable power tool turns on unexpectedly it could be sent flying across the room. This could cause damage to the tool, or even cause a serious injury.

5. Always disconnect a power tool from its power source before trying to clear a jam. You could accidentally turn it on, causing yourself great harm.

6. Pay attention to what you are doing when you are operating a power tool. Your full attention should be on the task at hand.

7. When another person is operating a power tool, refrain from distracting or disturbing them in any way. Not doing so could cause injury to one or both of you.

13. All cords should be positioned carefully to avoid becoming a tripping hazard. Any cords running across a pathway where tripping could become an issues should be hidden in a channel or taped to the floor.

14. Electricity deserves to be treated with respect. Be very cautious if a water source is near the work area. If water starts to invade the work area please disconnect the power tool from the power source to prevent electric shock.
