How to Prevent Cats from Stealing Your Possessions
Cats are fascinating creatures that love to investigate and spend their idle hours sleeping or concocting mischief! If your cats steal your possessions, you are probably wondering what you can do to prevent this. Read on to find out more
It does not matter if your cats have just one cat toy or a toy box overflowing with cat toys, some cats still do all they can to steal their owner's possessions. Common items include elastic bands, bottle caps, hair bands, and even rings! While some items are not important and will be recycled or thrown away, it can get rather annoying if you discover that your favourite hair band has gone missing off your night stand or if your wedding ring has suddenly disappeared. After enduring the loss of countless hair bands and then finding them again shoved under the fridge, I decided to take action against my thieving cats.
Don't Tease Cats with Your Possessions
I have come to learn through experience that teasing my cats with elastic bands and hair bands only entices them to try and grab them out of my hands or to snatch them if I put them down for just a moment. But in order to break cats of this habit and to avoid having to stock up with new items that have been taken, keep these items out of your cats' reach. If you tease them, they will do all they can to go after your possessions.
Secure Your Possessions
Securing your possessions is easier said than done. But then the phone rings as you are fixing your hair. Place hair bands and other items that your cats take into drawers, cupboards and in other hard to reach spots. Also, if you regularly take your wedding ring off at the end of the day, get into the habit of placing your wedding ring inside the box it came in rather than leaving it lying on the counter. Cats work quickly and will look for the next opportunity to snag their owner's possessions while their back is turned. Even if you notice right away that something is missing, the chances are you will not find the items again unless you comb through the house with a fine tooth comb. Cats hide items that they have stolen in the most hard to reach areas.
While it is amusing to watch cats play with elastic bands that you throw them, make sure that this does not get out of control and lead to the loss of important possessions.
