How to Choose Baby Bedding
Many new parents have no idea how to choose the right baby bedding for their newborn. With all of the choices available today it's no wonder they're struggling. It really doesn't have to be that hard to make the right choice though.
Whenever you are trying to decide what kind of baby bedding you should purchase, you need to make certain that your baby's safety is the main consideration in your mind. After all, babies do not care about color or design but they do expect that you keep them safe. Therefore, instead of concerning yourself with frivolous things, pay attention to safety instead.
The first thing that you will need to purchase in the form of baby bedding is your baby's crib itself. You should know that this is going to be a short term purchase, just like a lot of other items in your baby's nursery is going to be. Once a baby is able to pull itself up, or can sit up by themselves, then it is time to get your baby another bed. This usually occurs at around the age of six-months-old.
While there is still a lot that needs to be learned about Sudden Cot Death Syndrome, it is understood that baby bedding is a factor that contributes to this. For instance, baby pillows and comforters should not be placed on your baby's cot until they are at least one-year-old. This is because these things can lead to suffocation.
There are also a lot of varying opinions about baby blankets. A lot of these opinions have caused mothers to opt to use wearable blankets or sleep suits on their babies instead. Generally this is because of the fact that a baby can become tangled in their blanket and thus they might suffocate. However, this cannot happen with something that the baby is physically wearing.
Now, you should realize that purchasing baby bedding can actually be fun. There are some very beautiful baby bedding sets available today. So, if you really want to go all out and decorate your baby's nursery then you can always purchase this kind of bedding for decoration only and then remove it when the baby is sleeping.
There are gorgeous sleeping bags on the market for newborn babies. These are great to use instead of the traditional baby bedding. However, if you opt to use these then you should be sure that your baby is not getting too cold. You should also know that some babies will find that these sleeping bags are too constricting. This does not mean that you should opt for a bigger sleeping bag though. In fact, it is very important that you only use the size that actually fits your baby so that your baby does not suffer from SIDS.
Using traditional baby bedding, such as cotton sheets and blankets, does have its benefits though. These include the fact that they can be easily added and removed in order that you can control your baby's temperature.
Whatever you choose to purchase is honestly up to you but you should make sure that it is durable. While you may only use this bedding for a short time, you need to realize that your baby spends a considerable amount of time in their bed. This is why all of the baby bedding that you purchase should not only be durable but it should also be machine washable as well.
You are also going to need to buy a lot of baby bedding so that you do not have to spend all of your time washing it. Of course, the baby bedding should also suit your home's temperature. For instance, if you purchase polyester blankets you may discover that they are too warm for the home. You may also find that acrylic cellular blankets are too hot for your house. For an all around good choice you should opt for cotton. In fact, a general guide to baby bedding would tell you that a warm room (approximately 75 degrees C) will require one sheet. Then for every drop of 5 degrees C you should add another baby blanket. This cannot be generally assumed though since just as every person is different, so is every baby.
You simply want to make the best choice for your household and its needs. In the end your baby will be happy regardless of the colors or materials you choose.
