Big City Slider Station
This article shows the pros and cons to the Big City Slider Station to create wonderful mini burgers.
I love mini burgers. They are fun to eat and you can have more than just one (about five little burgers equal the size of one regular hamburger). I watched Billy Mays for days on his commercials and on his infomercials and I was fortunate enough to find that the Big City Slider Station was now being sold at my local Walgreen's. I had to have one. I purchased it and ran to the store to buy hamburger and little potato rolls - dinner plans had been changed.
I opened the box and pulled out my new cooking toy. It should be noted that you do not get the easy chop device if you purchase the Big City Slider Station from a store. It can only be purchased online for an additional $5.00 to pay for shipping and handling.
The Big City Slider Station is light-weight and much smaller than shown on television, but comes with the plastic scoop and a small booklet full of menu ideas. I followed the directions - scoop, press and cook. The claims are true, to cook five mini burgers it does only take two minutes, but I go five as I use a gas stove. The commercial shows the burgers being cooked on flat ranges, so care should be taken when working with an open flame.
There are a few problems with the Big City Slider Station: (1) as mentioned above, one should take extreme care when using the device one a gas range, grease will splatter and may cause a fire; (2) after using the plastic scoop for the third burger, the scoop broke and made it un-usable; and (3) after removing the mini burgers, the device should be drained of excess grease before it is used again.
Even though there are a few problems with the Big City Slider Station, there are much more benefits to using the device and many of them are indeed as advertised. Here are just a few of the plus sides that I have discovered: (1) I enjoy making them for dinner on a Saturday night and the leftovers make great mini flat meatballs in spaghetti the next day; (2) The scoop problem was remedied by the use of a full tablespoon of meat; (3) Sometimes just pressing with the top of the Big City Slider Station is not enough to fully shaped the burgers, it is best to press them out by hand and smooth with the top of the Big City Slider Station before cooking; (4) hamburger is not the only option, chicken and turkey work wonderfully in the Big City Slider Station; and (5) For a pound of hamburger, one can get about twenty mini burgers, which is more than enough for dinner or lunch.
Overall, I would recommend purchasing the Big City Slider Station if you love hamburgers in all shapes and sizes.
