Tricks to Lose Weight: Minding Your Own Body

Tricks for people who hate traditional exercise, diets, exercise videos, but love to eat.

Trick # 1 - Get moving. If you hate exercise machines, videos, classes, or going to the gym, then, forcing yourself to do something that you dislike is not going to help. Instead, find alternatives. Anything that you can do to stay active, (and burn calories, since this is the goal) will work: biking, hiking, walking, a favorite sport, gardening, taking the stairs and parking far - when safe, walking around doing chores or talking on the phone... you get the idea. The important thing here is to move, and not be stationary. Sit only if you have to.

Trick # 2 - Portion control. You have heard it many times, and this is the only way to cut on calories, if you don't want to end up starving or eating disgusting food. Unless you are in a medical diet, there is no need to sacrifice by not enjoying delicious food, as long as you follow portion control. To achieve portion control there are things that you can do. For example: serve your meal in a small plate (the same goes for your drink - a small glass), eat with Chinese sticks, instead of a fork/spoon, this will slow you down (at least until you master them). If you love cookies, cake and candy, or ice cream, have it; but the trick here is to pick one and have it once a month. For example if you want chocolate cake, then buy a cake and eat it (not in one sitting, please), but you are not to buy any more candy, cake or cookies, or ice cream, or any sweets for the rest of the month. A new month means you are allowed to pick another item. The goal here is one item per month.

Trick # 3 - Dump the soda, diet or regular. Soda just adds pounds. If you can live without it, then apply the cake rule, and have it once a month. Choosing healthy foods is better for your health and the weight will melt faster, so if you are going to have unhealthy food limit it to once a month per item. Drink water with your meals, instead.

Trick # 4 - If you love healthy foods, the closer to their natural or raw state the better. Choose green or garden veggies instead of frozen or can. Just ask yourself this question when buying an item: Is this the most natural state for this product? Potatoes are a good example.

Trick # 5 - Be mindful of eating. Never eat in front of the TV, or read while eating. If you are going to eat, give it the importance that it deserves. Thank the Universe or God because you have enough of it, and then enjoy every mouthful, savor it, slowly. You will feel full at the end of your meal, and satisfied. Most of the time we eat automatically, while working, reading or watching TV. We consume the meal fast, without even realizing it. Many times this leads to second servings.

Trick # 6 - If you lost weight and have clothes that are big on you, donate them, or sell them. Leaving your big clothes around is like giving yourself permission to fit in them again. By getting rid of them you are reaffirming the healthy body you want.

Trick # 7 - Big may be beautiful, but it isn't healthy. Find out your healthy weight, and slowly get to it. It will take time, just as it took some time to get to your present weight.

Trick # 8 - Make it fun. Don't treat losing weight as a punishment, a chore, or a far away goal. Make it a part of who you are, of your routine. If you have decided to eat healthy, natural foods, then research new recipes, join internet sites, make your own friend club to discuss new findings or trade recipes and items.

Trick # 9 - Make a new life scrap book/journal. Since you are committed, and don't have to worry because there are no videos to do, gyms to go, or diets to follow - just your own system, designed by you - enjoy the journey by having fun putting trips together ( that are geared to an active agenda); fashion tips, recipes, new information, products, things to do - all geared to the new you. Make it visual and write on it, too. Use it as a map, track your progress, and plan your destination.

Trick # 10 - Make it clear. When someone tries to sabotage your plan, and keeps insisting, stared at them in the eyes, hard and focused, and say loud and clear: "No, thank you." Don't give any explanation; you only owe them to yourself. If your face, expression, and tone match your words, they won't ask you again.

Trick # 11 - Mind your own body. Who cares if your best friend lost 5 pounds this week and you only lost 1 pound? You have a body, and she has hers. Unless you are planning on taking over her body (invasion of the body snatchers), mind your own. First, congratulate yourself for that 1 pound lost, then, congratulate her. Cheer you both.
