Knitted Doll Making: How to Do It
Introduces the basics in knitted doll making. What you need and what you have to know is what this article will teach you.
Doing handicrafts is the best choice. Knowing how to knit has many benefits. You can relax and improve your self- discipline. You can also create fabulous creation for display at home. It is easy; you can either go for scrap booking, painting, knitting, and etc. If you are looking for another new idea, making a knitted doll is right for you. Choosing your interest will help you become motivated to learn. Good eyesight is also a requirement in this craft.
For you to be able to start, you have to acquire these things:
cream colored ball of yarn or nay other color of your preference
a piece of 5/16 blue sheer ribbon
5/16 blue elastic
scissors
darning needles
ruler
size 8 knitting needles
Below is the step by step procedure that you have to learn and follow.
1. Cast on 34 stitches using soft colored yarn. Do not forget to leave a 5 inch end.
2.Knit eight rows to form the bottom of the doll.
3. Create the body of the doll by changing the pattern. To do this, knit one row and purl one row until you finish the 62 rows.
4.Cast off stitches and cut the knitted piece leaving 5 inch end again.
5.Thread the darning needle choosing any of the 5 inch ends. The end must be sewn at the closest side. This way, the stitches on doll's side when rolled up will not be shown.
6. With the remaining 5 inch end, thread the needle and sew to the nearest side. This way you can roll up the knitted doll to form a doll.
7. Following the form of a doll, roll and shape the piece when knitting is complete. Lay it down in front of your working area, making sure that the knitted piece in front side down position and the backside is facing you evenly.
8. Starting from its end, roll the edges tightly and evenly, and that they meet in the middle.
9. Roll the knitted piece up over the surface of your work surface, the eight knitted row is facing towards you and the rolled side on the surface of your work area.
10. Next, using your one hand, you hold the folded knitted piece tightly. Wrap elastic twice with one and half inch down from top over the folded area. This makes the head of the doll. After, as you form the body of the doll, the fold must be secured.
11. Then, unroll the fold partially over knitted piece below the elastic. You have to unroll first the knitted piece for you to form an arm to the doll on either sides of the body. Do not forget to stretch the areas between the sides.
12. You have to make the hood cover the head, arms rolled up close to elastic that divides and creates the hand and neck. To do this, you flip the partial unrolled section over the head below the elastic.
13. Lastly, you will need the sheer blue ribbon, cut it to 15 inch and wrap it around the hood starting from the back to front in the same position as the elastic. If you like, you can have a bow in front of the doll tied in blue ribbon. If you like the ribbon be trimmed, you can trim the end at a slant.
Now, amaze at your finished product. It is glorifying to know that you can do it. Dare to explore the artistic side of you.
