Adult Diapers are being worn to the casinos by gamblers who have a problem. The problem isn't incontinence - the problem is they do not want to leave their machines to use the rest rooms.
What sounded like an urban myth a while back has since become part of the everyday observances of casino workers. Both women and men are putting on adult diapers while they play the slot machines.
Gamblers etiquette is unwritten, but it is well known that a slot machine is yours while you are feeding it your money and pulling the handle, but as soon as you step away- it is up for grabs. Hanging a coat or sweater on the chair does nothing to save your place. Once you stop playing the machine, it is fair game for who ever comes along next.
The high rollers and big tippers might entice a casino floor worker to guard your spot while you use the facilities, but it is not something that happens for the ordinary folks playing the machines.
Adult Diaper Wearers Surprised Researchers
At the University of Victoria's Center for Addiction Research, Professor Tim Pelton conducted a study on gambling at area casinos. Something unexpected happened while surveying the casino staff about the signs of problem gamblers. A correlation started to emerge around problem gamblers and adult diapers.
Casino staff reported seeing behaviors that problem gamblers exhibit and much to the researchers' surprise, wearing diapers is one of them. Staff reports that along with becoming upset and agitated when losing money and making constant trips to the ATM machines, wearing an adult diaper is another sign of someone who is a problem gambler.
Of course people need to wear these diapers for medical conditions, but the overwhelming amount of adult diaper wearing in casinos does not coincide with the amount of people who need to wear them in the general public. There are many more adult diaper wearers in the casino than you would see a mall.
How do you know, you ask? Casino floor people are constantly walking the rooms and see the adult diapers peeping out from the back of the seated patrons. Another give away is the extraordinary amount of adult diapers being disposed of in the casinos bathrooms. Once the gambler is done, they discard the diaper before leaving the casino. Some have reported they can sometimes tell by the odor as they walk by someone.
Adult Diapers Being Marketed for Casino Use
The practice of wearing an adult diaper to the casinos has become so popular, that there are businesses advertising these diapers for that use. The website, Natural Health Depot, advertises diapers for "incontinence, handicapped youth and adults, truckers and gamblers all night in the casino".
Lisa Nowak, the astronaut that made headlines as she made her way cross country on a revenge ride, did so wearing adult diapers. She was able to go 900 miles without one stop at a rest room. She was on a mission and did not want to waste time for bodily functions. The comedians and late night talk shows had a field day with her story.
If you are wearing an adult diaper as part of your casino wardrobe and not wearing them anywhere else, then this is truly an indication that gambling has become a problem for you. It is time to get some help.
