Novacort Hydrocortisone Gel for Skin Problems
This medicine is a topical anesthetic and corticosteroid combination used to reduce itching, pain, redness, or swelling associated with many skin disorders.
On the tube of Novacort it says it is a "gel", but it seems more like a cream to me. This is classified as a drug, and is manufactured by : Primus pharmaceuticals. According to their literature, this medicine combines an anesthetic, the steroid cortisone, and aloe vera. It is meant for people who are experiencing itching, pain, redness, and swelling that are all caused from a variety of skin disorders.
I love this product! On my most recent visit to my dermatologist he did several things to my face. I had a suspicious mark on my face that did not go away with the cream he prescribed for me a few months ago, so he froze it today with liquid nitrogen. While he was at it, (and because each subsequent freezing is cheaper and cheaper) I had him treat two age spots and a melasma spot in the same way.
After those treatments, he then lazered two small broken capillaries around the sides of my mouth. All of these treatments left my skin quite tender and sore, and very red. My Dr. asked me if I was going straight home, and I said no, I had a few errands to do first. He said, "well, you will want us to put some of this Novacort on your face before you leave the office. He had his nurse apply the Novacort Gel to the areas, and gave me the remaining sample to take home, telling me to apply it a few times a day to the areas on my face.
When I got home an hour later, my face looked quite bad, it was red and the areas he burned were slightly puffy. In a few hours I applied more of the Novacort, and a couple hours after that I noticed a real improvement in the sore spots on my face. This product is a joy to use! It's a nice thick and rich white colored cream, not really what I would consider a gel, and it glides on very smoothly. It is truly fragrance free, dye free, paraben free, and it contains aloe and other moisturizers - and it is indeed very moisturizing. This was a pleasant surprise!
The product contains 2% hydrocortisone acetate and 1% pramoxine HCL. My Dr. said he wanted me to use this daily for just a few days and then stop, but let me tell you, this stuff did the trick with my sores! I had stopped by a department store and had them match a foundation to my skin, because I was afraid I was going to have to cover up these spots in order to be seen in public, but honestly, after a couple days the Novacort did such a great job of healing those spots that I only needed very minimal cover up.
Novacort feels good going on, there is no stinging, no burning, and it absorbs very quickly into the skin. Possible side effects include burning, itching, mild irritation, or dryness, but I did not experience any of those. If you suffer with skin cancers and have to have them frozen or burned from your skin, please do ask your Dr. to give you Novacort! It works great in helping to deaden the pain, and facilitates healing. This is a great product.
