JBL and Stone Cold Steve Austin Make 'Monday Night Raw' Returns
John Bradshaw Layfield made his return on "Monday Night Raw" only to be upstaged by the return of Stone Cold Steve Austin, who will be the referee in the WrestleMania match between Michael Cole and Jerry "The King" Lawler.
It all started when Michael Cole had a special announcement to reveal the special guest referee for his WrestleMania match with Jerry "The King" Lawler. Cole got on the mic and said his hand holds the contract for which the guest referee will sign to make this match official. Cole started to describe the referee, saying how he is impartial, and vowed to call this contest right down the middle. Cole then described this mystery person's characteristics and accomplishments, saying how he is a former WWE champion, a true legend, an iconic figure in WWE history, and like Cole, he is a legendary Texan. Cole told the crowd to cheer Austin, and joined into the chants. Cole then called the fans fools, saying how he suckered the fans in. Cole then announced that the special guest ref is none other than JBL.
John Bradshaw Layfield's signature limo came from the back, and JBL popped out from the back seat and strutted to the ring. JBL got on the mic and started to dis Texas and the people from the state, saying how he is glad that he left that state to go to a real state, in New York City.
JBL went on how there has never been anyone to debut in the main event at WrestleMania until now. JBL congratulated Cole and told him how proud he was for what he has done in the past few months and how much he grew. JBL ended saying how he will accept the responsibility of being the special ref, taking a pen from his jacket. But just when he was getting ready to put his signature on the contract, Austin's music hit and out came Stone Cold.
Stone Cold and JBL got face-to-face before Austin delivered the stunner to JBL. Austin took JBL's hat and celebrated with a couple of beers in the ring. Cole went back to the commentary desk, saying how this was his night and Austin ruined it. After celebrating with the crowd for a few minutes, he recognized the contract that was lying in the ring. Austin picked it up and put his signature on it, confirming that he will be the special guest referee for Cole and Lawler's match at WrestleMania. Austin went to Michael Cole and poured two beers on his head, telling him good luck in his match. Stone Cold ended the night delivering one last stunner to JBL.
Steve Austin's return was heavily publicized and hyped the week before, while John Bradshaw Layfield's return was a total surprise and came out of left field. This was the first time that Austin was in a WWE ring since August 2020, when Austin appeared on the 900th episode of Raw. His return coincides with the return of Tough Enough, which Austin is hosting. JBL made his return to a WWE ring for the first time in two years, since he lost to Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 25 in 21 seconds, and quit the wrestling business.
With Steve Austin signed on to be the special guest referee in the WrestleMania match between Michael Cole and Jerry "The King" Lawler, it adds interest to the match, and also puts another wrestling legend on a card that includes other wrestling stars, such as The Rock, The Undertaker, Triple H, and many more.
