V/H/S Filled With Cheap Thrills

V/H/S is a horror film composed of short stories that include vampires and ghosts but have one thing in common, they are all filmed on a VHS tape. The quality of the film is purposely grainy which also muffles the sound but is the film worth watching?

Watching yet another handheld camera film is already atrocious enough but let me try to skip that and review the film on it's story telling power. The characters were not developed at all but they did serve their purpose; they were there to get you scared. Most of these characters are your typical party young adults that resemble something you'd probably see on Jersey Shore and before you make a judgement on me because I'm even familiar with that show rest assured I just saw a commercial for it. Well if I visit my sisters, sometimes they have that show on and I catch the decadence and death of our society and I am sadden. Because these characters were not developed I never cared about their circumstances, their troubles or possible demise. Story-wise? The story was not necessary just a reason to have people go somewhere or meet a stranger.

Was that the point of the film? Were the film-makers only interested in getting you scared? That is the point of a horror film but in my perspective I think it should scare you even after the credits roll. I should be terrified at night, I should have trouble sleeping for days. Movies that do that are rare and few now-a-days and here is just more proof that we've downgraded horror to just 'gotcha' moments and a loud noise so you can jump in your seat. So to the film-makers of this movie, you've succeeding in making a film that tests my reflexes and you should be happy to know that they are working fine.
