Week Recap: New Promotional Materal from HBO's "Game of Thrones"

As the days draw closer to the premiere, HBO amps up it's marketing strategies in promoting the show. This week, new videos, posters, and another link to forge!

Five New Videos

The first video, Fear and Blood, is hauntingly narrated by Margaret John, the beloved Old Nan, who passed away earlier this year. We get our first real look at the 700 foot wall made of ice, an eerie introduction to the mysterious myth of the "white walkers" and a glimpse of the building tension as more players for the throne are introduced.

We then received four new House introduction videos which can be found here at the Winter Is Coming blog. As this story is one of high complexity, I was really happy to see that HBO is starting to educate the masses on the characters. Book readers had an appendix section in each book to keep characters and their houses straight as they read. These videos serve as a virtual reference and may prove to be priceless as viewers new to the story watch the show.

Official Promotional Posters

HBO revealed five fantastic promotional posters this week. All posters are compiled nicely at the Winter Is Coming blog. The posters picture one character sitting upon the Iron Throne. A throne made of swords from fallen and surrendered foe. It is a cold seat of iron and barbed with blades still sharp hundreds of years later. Each poster also displays a unique quote that defines each character quite well. As a fan, I'm so happy that they chose this imagery, because while there are many other plots and twists happening, essentially the heart of the story is the fight for the Iron Throne. A fight that not all characters (past and present) want, but find themselves involved in nevertheless.

Link Three of the Maester's Path

Do you dare to take no wife and father no children, to take the black and become the light in the darkness? That is just part of the promise prospects make in order to join the Night's Watch. To obtain link three in the Maester's path users are given a virtual tour, DOOM style, of the top of the ice wall that protects the seven kingdoms. They are then asked to take the black and scout for wildlings. After spotting them and sounding the horn users will obtain the third link. Forge your links here: The Maester's Path

Also, out this week, two confirmed titles for episodes 1 and 2, "Winter is Coming" and "The Kingsroad", respectively. With the month countdown to the premier starting today, I imagine this is just the beginning of HBO's strategy to increase the buzz surrounding this show. Fans and viewers alike continue to be enthralled with each new piece of media that is revealed daily. We wait as patiently as we can, remembering that, "When you play the game of thrones you win or you die."
