World Tour WG20D Deluxe 20mm Acoustic Guitar Gig Bag Review

A review for the World Tour WG20D Deluxe 20mm Acoustic Guitar gig bag. We review the price, the storage space, and the overall durability of this gig bag.

World Tour gig bag

This is a review for the World Tour Deluxe 20mm Guitar Gig Bag. This gig bag costs around $25 through $30 USD and can be found in most music stores as well as online websites like Amazon, which is where I ordered my gig bag. In this article I'll be reviewing all of this guitar gig bag's features to help shed some light on whether you should buy this bag or not, as well as if it is worth its price. If you want to find this bag on the official website visit Worldtourproducts.com and search for the WOR WG20D gig bag.

Gig bag Storage space

When my guitar gig bag arrived in the mail the first thing I did was check to see how big the pockets were and how much storage space it had. This bag is absolutely amazing with how much it can hold. I have a yellow music folder that is about 12 inches tall and around 9 inches wide and it fit with lots of room to spare. Not only could it fit the yellow folder, but I was also able to jam two more small notebooks in there as well, all within one pocket. The part that amazed me even more was that the largest pocket still had a bit of room left in there to hold possibly one more notebook. So if you have a lot of music books and sheet music it should be able to hold them.

This bag has a total of three pockets located on the front of the bag; the largest pocket is closest to the guitar's body (used to hold the sheet music), while the smallest pocket is located on the front outside part of the gig bag, leaving the medium sized pocket in the middle. I use the small pocket to hold two packs of strings, my capo, my cleaning cloth, picks, and my electric tuner, it still has a bit more room to hold more items but to be honest I didn't try because it still had two other pockets on the gig bag and I didn't see the point in jamming it with any more items. In fact I almost never have to use the middle pocket because the largest and smallest pockets hold all of my important items and I have nothing else to store in there. If you needed to I would say that the middle pocket is still large enough to hold sheet music and notebooks as well.

As for the interior dimensions of the gig bag- it is about 16" wide, 41" long and maybe about 5" deep. I tested it out and it is big enough to hold most acoustic guitars and dreadnought style instruments, so you shouldn't have to worry about your instrument being too big for the gig bag. My Dreadnought fit without any problems. If you still think your dreadnought guitar is too large for the standard World Tour gig bag, they make another similar gig bag specifically made for dreadnought style guitars.

The only thing I would have liked to have seen was a neck support strap to keep the guitar secure from wiggling around inside the bag in case you had a smaller instrument inside, but other than that there isn't really anything else bad to say about the storage space, so I'll just move on.

Durability and padding

This is what World tour had to say about their bag-

"The bags feature 20mm of high density padding on all sides, covered with a water resistant, PVC backed Cordura exterior material and fine scratch-proof Cordura interior. Other features include- gusseted triple pocket storage, traditional handle, rear handle and back-pack style transport attachment, interior neck tuner and bridge patches to prevent tearing, heavy-duty 10mm zippers with oversize pulls, rubber base feet and a 5 Year Warranty."

Impressive…

But does it really have everything that they say it does?

When I measured the padding on the side of my bag it actually looked a little bit less than 20mm, but it was hard to tell because I couldn't tell the padding from the zipper lining. But to tell you the truth the difference was so slight it didn't really matter. I'll explain why in a bit.

The zippers are a bit stiff but they will hold up, and they don't snag or get stuck when moving them around and they haven't torn or broken or shown any signs of coming off on me anytime soon. The handles and backpack straps are both made out of the same material as the rest of the bag with plastic handle grips to carry the gig bag around. They too should hold up with time. The backpack style straps are adjustable but cannot be removed; they are both sewed into the back of the gig bag. I was hoping they could be taken off because I prefer using a single strap to sling diagonally across my chest, and I found trying to get both arms into the vertical backpack style straps to be a bit awkward and difficult without loosening both straps first. After I tried loosening the straps I then found it to be too low. So I would loosen the straps, put the gig bag on and then try to tighten it back into place after that. I found that too complicated so I now only use one strap over a single shoulder.

After smashing the inside of the gig bag with my hands to see how thick the padding was, I also found a small hump where the neck goes to give a little bit of extra support in that area. So whether the bag is actually 20mm thick in padding or not, it will absorb most of the impact if you happen to hit the gig bag up against a door or into a wall. Drop your guitar on the sidewalk and I'm pretty sure it will get damaged from the fall, but I didn't test it, and I don't want to. If a small object were to fall and hit the guitar or if you had it leaning up against a wall and it tipped over, the gig bag should be able to absorb the impact; for this part I did test it. I tipped my guitar over while it was in the case and the padding did absorb the fall as it hit the floor. Luckily there were no guitars harmed during the test.

The small pegs on the bottom of the gig bag are supposed to help keep it standing upright but the weight isn't distributed evenly so it still needs either a guitar stand to help hold it up or you will have to lean it up against a wall so that it doesn't fall over.

As for being water resistant, I would say that it could withstand a good drizzle, but a lot of moisture is bad for your guitar anyway so I wouldn't risk it. If you are going to school, music practice or just playing a small street performance, then this gig bag will do fine. Again, it should be able to withstand a little bit of water but it is better to be safe than sorry, so don't let the bag get too wet.

Should you buy it?

Overall I really like this gig bag. It has a decent amount of padding, the backpack straps are a bit awkward for me to wear both at the same time, but you can adjust them and wear them any way that you want. The storage space is great for holding sheet music and other accessories, and it has a low and reasonable price. I would give this gig bag a rating of 9/10.

I would have given it a perfect score, but again I would have liked if you could remove the two straps with some clamps so that you could have a single diagonal strap, and I would have also liked a neck support strap on the inside of the bag to hold smaller instruments in place. But for thirty bucks you will get an amazing guitar gig bag, so I won't complain. Keep in mind though that gig bags are NOT the same as guitar cases, so if you are planning on taking this on a plane I would recommend using a hard case because it offers more protection.

But as a gig bag, I highly recommend it if you need a new gig bag for your guitar.
