Removing Stains from Baby Clothes: Products and Process
The cost of clothes keeps going up and that includes baby clothes.
What are the steps required to remove stains?
When a piece of clothing gets a stain you should immediately rub cold water on it to get as much of the soiling out as possible. The quicker this is done the better the chance of success.
Once you have used cold water on the stain it is time to use a commercial stain remover.
Examples of stain removers include but are not limited to the following:
Probably the stain remover that is considered top-of-the-line is "Shout." Shout comes as a liquid, gel, and wipes as well as other forms.
Most products have a home site which I have linked to. At each one there are many specific answers to questions which the brevity of a survey article does not allow me to deal with.
Also, stain removers as a product are inexpensive usually between three and five dollars.
Shout has two general instructions. One is for set stains and one is for recent stains.
In the case of a set stain it is alright to let the clothing sit overnight. For recent stains it is best just to let the piece of clothing sit for a few minutes with the application of the stain remover.
In my opinion the best product is Dreft Spray Stain Remover. It costs $4.50 per spray can and its application is easy. It is the most gentle of stain removers and it is effective. Once again, let the remover sit for a few minutes after rubbing with cold water.
A new product that is getting high praise is OxiClean. It started out as an infomercial product but now is distributed. Not only does it remove stains in an amazing fashion but it actually provides a barrier from getting future stains.
In all cases it is imperative to read the directions when removing stains. When using any cleaning product safety is of utmost importance especially considering the fact that if you do something wrong it could hurt your baby. Keep in mind it is not a good idea to mix products.
After you have rubbed the stain with cold water and applied the stain remover of choice, it is time to wash the item in question. My wife and I always felt that Dreft was the best detergent for babies because it is so gentle and doesn't leave a film.
Don't put the clothing in the dryer if the stain is still present. Repeat the process of cold water, stain remover and washing with Dreft.
Once the stain has come out then it can be tumble dried.
By using this method for removing stains from baby clothing most stains can be removed.
It is always important to exercise patience. Removing stains from your baby's clothes can save a lot of money.
