Tips on Fixing the Tail Light on Your Car or Truck

Here are some things you can do at home to fix your brake light.

The first thing you have to do is check your fuses. The owner's manual of your car should be able to tell you were to go to find them. If you do not have an owners manual look for a small door like box in the front of your vehicle or under your hood. If you see a fuse that looks like it is burnt out, or broken in some way, replace it with a new one and see if that solves your problem.

If your problem is more then just a bad fuse you should check to make see if the bulb burnt out. To do this you will probably need a large screw driver or to reach inside and remove the red covering. Your car might be different so you should check out your owner's manual to see how to remove the break light. Now that you can see the insides of the light check the bulbs to see if any of them have there filaments burnt out. They might have also somehow become disconnected, and if that is the case all you need to do is replace it with another bulb.

However, if none of your bulbs look like they have gone bad. They might just be loose. Turn on your lights and wiggle the bulb that is not working to see if it will turn on. If it does then make sure the thing is secure in its spot before you put the cover back on. Just watch it for a couple of days just in case it comes apart.

If none of these fix the problem you might need to take out the entire brake lights housing in order to get access to the wires behind it. If on of the wires is loose, or has fallen off al together take a needle nose pliers and crush the ends of the connection together so that they will be snug on and not fall off again. Just make sure your key is off for this, because you do not want to get an accidental shock
